RareJob Tips Part 2

by - 12:22:00 PM

Hi everyone! I'm writing this because I've been busy lately with my business, RareJob, studies and my social life (HAHA) that I can't reply to everyone's emails right away (and for some reason, some of their emails go to spam) - so sorry about that. To make up for it please refer to this post for tips. These tips are probably the most helpful tips you will come across the internet since the time I was applying for RareJob there were really no tips available.... at all. So you're welcome. Haha. Please leave me a comment or at least let me know if you found this helpful. :) If you want MORE tips (omg HAHA) - I have to ask you first to let me refer you and I'd gladly train you from then. Again, email me at pomelyyy@gmail.com hihi.

And if you haven't read RareJob TSA tips PART ONE - you should. Just click here
Frequently asked questions

1. How will I know if I'm going to use the boy or girl's material?
Well, you won't know until your demo lesson. After the test call, they will tell you which material to use. I HIGHLY SUGGEST you practice on both materials to be safe. :)
*tip: Print the material out just in case your browser starts acting up - true story by my RareJob friend*

2. Can I use an ipad or iPhone for the test call?
Just NO. You might have to resched because of that.

3. What can I say to the student when he/she is wrong without technically using the word 'wrong'?
Okay, you're right. Don't use the word 'wrong'. I'm a student and even I don't like that word, it makes me... sad. Haha. So what can you say? Well, you can "That's a good try! You can also use the word ____ / You can also say it like this _____" > improvise from there. :)

4. Will I discuss the whole lesson?
No (according to the lesson plan I used when I applied) but as far as I'm concerned, strictly follow the lesson plan. I didn't when I was applying and my student had to correct me. Hihi. Still went well tho. :)

5. Is it okay to end early?
Again, no. End the lesson ON TIME. Imagine having to pay for a 15-minute show but only for it to end after 10 minutes. If you can, engage in small talk with your student and give helpful feedback. This student wants to learn, so do your best to give follow-up activities he/she can possibly do to get better. And don't end late either.

6. After the mock lesson, what happens?
So you're going to end the mock lesson.. and after that, your trainor will call you and give feedback. Usually if you pass, they will tell you right away then email you with details you have to complete like the bank account and TIN number. But if you don't pass, they'll just tell you they're going to email you (based from a friend's experience). Oh, and there really is no interview - just feedback :)

7. What does MS mean in the material?
Honestly..... I still do not know. However, I don't think it really matters. You can do this:

Do this as you talk but don't forget to make the student feel his/her answer is alright. Tell him/her it was a good try. :) >> and yes, this worked for me.

Other tips

Keep it light and fun for the student. No one wants a very serious teacher. When I became a RareJob tutor, I made sure my student and I were always laughing (and learning, of course). That way, they remember the lessons better.

Practice the material on someone. I did this to my younger siblings and so I highly recommend this. This boosts up your confidence and teaching skills (which they look for). I like practicing on my younger siblings because I didn't know what they were going to say or ask me. It helps you become spontaneous in a sense.

Keep a dictionary open. I'm currently a RareJob tutor and I still do this. It helps me be ready for whatever my student has to ask me. Although I do not suggest you simple copy the meaning unless the word is really simple. What I do is I use the dictionary for reference then try to simplify it with simpler words. Keep it light remember. :) + the student could do the same, he/she could just open the dictionary.

And so again, I hope these were helpful to you. That's probably all I could squeeze out of this overworked brain of mine. If you really want this job so bad and want to undergo training, again - I have to refer you. But to be referred, you should have NOT YET signed up RareJob. Okay, okay? :) Bye and have a lovely day. 2 NOTES

  1. Hello. I'm now at the Profile & Orientation part. Then I should read and study the modules right? After this, you mentioned that there is a mock lesson? So I wouldn't be tutoring real Japanese students yet? I will still be tutoring trainers that would serve as the students?

  2. I have a question. If say, I did not pass the mock test, what do I do? Does that mean I couldn't continue the process already or do I have to try again and again?
