Girl Who Wont Settle

Powered by Blogger.
It has become tradition to always look back at the past year when welcoming the new year. Like in Facebook and Instagram, I've put up a little something to sum up this 2015. Last year, I wrote about the lessons 2014 has taught me so for this year, I'd like to do something different.

So to officially sum up and close this year, here's the memorable events of 2015:

-Making things happen: My sister and I started a business. We made plushies. Our best-sellers are Pusheens. We also had a pop-up booth during the fiesta at Pateros. (If you're curious, check us out @mne_shop and Meli and Elisha's (FB))

When I write reviews, I always make sure that I completely use the product enough to recommend or reject it. Although I don't really reject products, I always make sure that I give criticism that will help my readers whether to purchase it or not. And just because a product works or does not work for me, doesn't mean it will work or won't work for you, 100% the same (but in some rare cases - it actually does LOL). What's important is I always be truthful.

With that having said, here's a new set of products I just reviewed for your benefit. Last week, I got this package from Nayangu called a "Gift of Wellness" and wrote about it. If you haven't read about it yet, you can click here.

Nayangu Essentials: Among the products I received, these three have quickly made it to my top essentials. Here's a review of all the three products:

If there's one thing I love - it would be receiving packages. You could imagine my joy when I found this in the mail a few days ago. However, what excites me more was what was inside. I found the box with a the letter and label "A Gift Of Wellness from Nayangu" - I know what you're thinking. *YAY*

Eppp! What's Christmas without giving? Today, I decided to write a gift guide for the fashionista of every barkada. Because our fashionista friends are always up-to-date with the latest trends and all, it can be really tricky to give them gifts. And if you're not always updated with pop culture and all, it would be embarrassing to give them something outdated.

Finally, it's my Christmas break!

Sorry for all the inactivity but I'm back since we're on vacation from school. Hayy school. Through the course of the semester,  I realized something - I'm not good with handling stress (but hey, who is?) Sadly, you can tell I'm stressed just by looking at my face. Sleepy eyes, dark circles and pimples.... you name it! So while I hibernate and get back to non-zombie looking myself, I thankfully have this amazing duo that helps with just that.

I am loving how everything ‘vintage’ is making it’s way back to the 20th century. I remember always telling my friends how I’d love to live in times where you can casually wear long dresses and lots of hairspray and break into a song and dance like it’s a normal thing. Wait…………. Hairspray? HAHA. Anyways, so when Jan told me about the heritage homes at Pila, I was more than stoked to visit the place.

If there’s one thing we all look forward to, it’s the weekend. For some of us, these two days are all we have to go out, relax and enjoy. Thus, we always want to look our best (this includes having a good hair day!)

Say good bye to your bad hair days and say hello to UU HairExtensions!

To be honest, I’d never thought of hair extensions as a positive thing but now I think they have their perks too. Although I’m still not a user because I like my hair short (no thank you to the immense heat) – I’d still like to recommend it to anyone who’d like to have long hair.

As a student, stress is not new to me especially now that school is coming to an end. There's requirements popping here and there - and even with a planner, everything's still C R A Z Y. While the all-nighters suck away my life, I'm still not giving up........ I still (feel and am) healthy - all thanks to ATC Healthcare.

Holaaaa! I can’t believe it’s been more than a month since I updated this blog again. With acads and org duties, I’ve been trying to squeeze in some social life in between and everything’s CRAZY (but in a good way) and while I compose myself for probably another “life lately” post, here’s something I’ve been working on from last month’s drafts.

I can remember I always wanted to work for a magazine since Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of A Shopaholic days. Working for a fashion / style magazine is one of my life pegs (or 'hashtaggoals' as you would call it). I finally thought my dreams would come true (HAHAHA JK) last month cause I was called for an interview for some magazine. Let’s use “some magazine” for reasons that I don't want to name the magazine.

Nine in 10 Filipino consumers surveyed by global nutrition company Herbalife are “highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause them, with the same number believing that simple lifestyle changes can help improve their overall well-being.
A good number of the respondents expressed willingness to adopt a healthy lifestyle; 79 percent said that they would cut down on unhealthy foods, 78 percent expressed their willingness to exercise more regularly, and 72 percent said they would make better nutrition choices.

It's been a year since the Satchmi Store opened its doors and they’re celebrating it the best way they know how: the ultimate birthday party happening! I’m so excited for September 26, but while we wait, here are a couple of things we hear you can expect at Satchmi’s Birthday Bash:

Free flowing drinks
The Satchmi Store as most people know, is not just your ordinary record store. They also have a coffee bar situated right in the middle. Their third wave coffee has been praised and raved on by many, getting their beans straight from the local supplier - EDSA Beverage Design Group. This time though, not only will we get free flowing coffee for the night, but free flowing craft beer from their friends over at CraftPoint Brewery! Coffee + Beer = the perfect way to cap off the night.

Let's admit it, we all dream of being selfie-ready like any celebrity. And while putting make-up and face products can be a lot of work, we'd like to stick to something simple but effective. Luckily for us, there's a new concept store in town that solves all that and it's - BLUSHING BEAUTY by SkinStation.

Blushing Beauty was especially designed for conscious-looking tweens and young adults but really open to everyone who'd like to look good while taking care of their skin. They opened last September 12, 2015 at the also newly launched CityMall in Imus, Cavite. Here's a sneak peak of what happened during their grand launch + pictures of the place:

Although I don't usually wear makeup, I still like to consider makeup as a women’s best friend. It’s the art of beautification that dates back to ancient times. Women have been putting on makeup to highlight their best features and bring out the best in them all around the world. Just like the right amount of makeup can make you look stunning, too much of it can overshadow your entire appearance and make you look old. So the key to look your best is to wear just the appropriate amount of make up in accordance with the occasion and the outfit.

With the growing use of makeup, online buying and selling of makeup is also gaining pace. Many renowned E-stores and online market places such as Kaymu, Amazon and Shopthiseasy are providing a promising online platform for buyers and sellers all across the country offering a vast variety of makeup products  from world-class make up brands such Maybelline, L’Oreal’ , Cover Girl, Garnier etc. Following are the simple tips and tricks you can use to learn how to do your own make like a pro.

Being young doesn't mean you get to have perfect skin *although there was a point in my life where I assumed so HAHA* But reality check, we all have our own skin problems. And thanks to technology today, it's never too late (or even early) to start taking care of one's skin - that is, all thanks to aesthetic clinics.

But aesthetic clinics are growing in the country.... Each clinic has its own personality, with different approaches to beauty. But it is important to look for a clinic that utilizes methods that value a person’s inherent beauty and provides services suitable to one’s needs - and that's something I always like to consider.

One thing that's keeping me from making more outfit posts is the weather. Most of the time it's bipolar and most of the time, it's just raining... hard. Today is Saturday, the only time I can ask my sister to take photos of me for another outfit post but the rain is just getting in my way. For photos, I usually wait till 5-6pm because I think that's the best time for photos.

Being a retired swimmer, tan lines were my number one enemy. You know, besides beating myself at my own records, the sun and all that. And I guess that's just one downside of swimming, you have no choice - you will end up having uneven skin color. In my past 4 years of swimming, along side with other swimming gigs every now and then, I didn't mind it.

I didn't mind it until it got bad. I noticed how my arms and legs were really darker compared to my body and face and that made me shy (HAHAHA ok to be fair, just a bit). But I really didn't like how it looked and no matter what I did, my skin just wouldn't go back to its original color.

When I'm not wearing black, I'm definitely wearing something printed. I'm a bit obsessed with prints (to be honest) - especially the floral and The Book of Life kind. What I love about it? I love that prints make a statement - whether you're girly, emo, futuristic, weird (HAHA) or whatever statements you want to say. Also, you don't have to accessorize that much. That's why usually they're paired with plain tops, bottoms. But if you're daring, you can pair it with prints too. Oh, how I wish there was a shop that sells anything and everything printed..... oh wait. There is. It's Dresslink! :)

Dresslink belongs to Hongkong Linemart Limited which is a worldwide online fashion clothing shop. They sell more than 10,000 styles (imagine!) of clothes all over the world including the Philippines. Today, they take pride in offering exceptionally low priced but high quality clothes. When I checked their site, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the clothes, bags, shoes and accessories to choose from - so in all seriousness, check them out!

Hello! Welcome to the second volume of The Sunday Currently. Sundays are usually rest days but sometimes, I like to write (or in this case, blog) and share how my Sundays go- and that's the only thing I do on Sundays. Go to church, eat, sleep, rest and write. Anyways, I hope everyone has a fun-filled week ahead.

C U R R E N T L Y

READING
To All The Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han. Actually, I'm rereading it so that I can finally read her next book everyone is going crazy about. I need more new books. Do you guys have any suggestions?

WRITING
more blog posts and book reviews for a client. Yaaaaay

LISTENING
to High School Musical albums. Huhuhu I miss them but every time I just watch the movies, I feel too depressed thinking about how Zac and Vanessa are not together. Sorry, big fan.

THINKING
about what to do next. Last year, I was busy teaching English to Japanese online. This year, I don't really have a permanent "summer job". Probably because I'd like to rest and do other things. People say I should go back to teaching because I was good at it but I'd like to try something new then maybe go back. It doesnt hurt, right?

SMELLING
the rain. Now that it's July, the rainy season has begun. Hayyy

WISHING
For school to actually start. I'm excited with my new subjects.

WEARING
my going out clothes. We're going to have lunch with relatives today. I can't wait. Another excuse of mine to pig out. Haha!

WANTING
to go on an adventure. Last week I went hiking with friends. This week, I want to go swimming.

NEEDING
sleep. I've been puyat lately because my boyfriend was in the US for the past month. With the 12 hour difference, we would both always stay up late.

FEELING
really excited. My boyfriend is finally home after his month-long adventure in the US. I'm finally gonna see him tomorrow and catch-up! :) :)

Last Wednesday, June 24, my orgmates and I went "backpacking" around Laguna. Although it really wasn't like the hardcore backpacking where you don't go home until the adventure was over - it was a good start. Amateur backpackers please. Haha. With more than 12 hours on the road, long bus rides and rainy muddy hikes - we've finally made it to Pandin Lake in San Pablo Laguna!

First things first, HOW DO WE GET TO PANDIN LAKE VIA PUBLIC TRANSPO?

#1 From Jollibee Junction near UP Los Banos, Laguna:
Ride a jeep that says "San Pablo" (32 PESOS). Ride all the way till you see buildings. The jeepney driver will tell you if you are already in San Pablo anyway. Go down near KFC. From KFC, there is a road with jeepneys lined up. Go ride a jeep that says "Sambat" (13 PESOS). The driver will then drop you off in Sambat. You will see a BIG sign that says "Pandin" lake. Follow the trail or ask assistance (there usually is a guide near the entrance).

#2 From South Station, Alabang:
Go ride a jeep that says Sta Cruz. Tell the bus conductor you're going to "UPLB College" (55 PESOS). Go down at Olivarez. Again, the bus conductor will tell you if you're near. On the same side of the road, ride a jeep that says "San Pablo" then follow #1. :)

Total cost to get to Pandin lake one-way from Alabang: 100 PESOS

When I'm not blogging, I'm definitely eating. One of my favorite food would have to be pizza. I like how pizza can be so light and full-filing(?) at the same time. It's easy to eat, you know it's not really complicated - just use your hands (unless your the fancy shmancy fork and knife - kind of person). Pluuuuuus it's cheesy! Safe to say, I can eat pizza forever (and I mean forever)

Because of this love for pizza, I have set my heart and tummy to find the best pizza in the world. I mean who does that? Huhu. After trying a lot of pizza-s in my lifetime, I think I finally found my favorite.

Hello! Welcome to the first volume of Sunday Currently. I hope to this on a weekly basis, we'll see.

C U R R E N T L Y

READING
the ABCs of Hand Lettering by Abbey Sy. My mom bought it for me a week ago but I still like to reread the book - it's beautiful and really helpful. (will probably do a blogpost about it too)

WRITING
this and two more new blog posts due this week. I promised myself I would have to keep blogging every now and then. I missed so many events during school that I could have been writing by now... but meh, that's okay. Just keep writing (just keep swimming, swimming...)

LISTENING
to Us the Duo on Spotify.... ekkk! They're going to have their first full length show in the Philippines next month. I CANNOT WAIT! For now, I have "No Matter Where You Are" on repeat. I just love this song.

THINKING
about nice business opportunities. Ohhh you know the student feels. You want to go out but don't have enough money or you probably already spent it the first outing. So every time I get out of school for the summer I'd like to think about what I can do to earn money. It actually is pretty fun and it gets addicting when you make many sales..... huhu. Maybe I should have taken "business and entrepreneurship" as my life course. But that's another thought. Must not overthink.

SMELLING
old cloth from Divisoria. My sister and I started with business duties again which meant we went back to sewing stuff toys yesterday. It was the first time in months since we touched the cloth we bought from Divi. The smell is too strong.

WISHING
for it to be July 4 already. My boyfriend is out of the country and it's been a month already. I can't wait for him to get back because I can finally go ouuuuut! Not that I can't right now. It's just most of my friends are on their "On The Job Trainings" and taking "MidYear" classes. Plus, I also miss him. The 12 hour difference is killing me and my brain cells. I need sleep.

WEARING
the usual lazy day outfit - my grey racer back top and my blue cotton on shorts - very comfy.

LOVING
our baby shitzsu named Waffle. We adopted her last February but since I stay in the dormitory at school, I only go home on weekends so I rarely see Waffle. Finally this month, I stayed at home for the longest time ever. And since my sisters and brother go to school (June na eh), it's usually just me and Waffle at home. She is so playful, okay. HAHA

WANTING
coffee from Starbucks.... or iced green tea latte. That sounds good right now. Oh and biscuits. I want biscuits.

NEEDING
A back massage. HAHAHAHA how maarte but I mean it. I went hiking and backpacking with friends + I went to LB more than twice to fix papers + business duties all this week. I'm tired but not pretty.

FEELING
lazy today buuuuuut overall, I feel really happy and blessed. I go to Facebook and see all these "sablay" pictures (graduation tradition in UP) and I have mix emotions. I feel happy seeing my engineering friends and orgmates FINALLY graduating. To finish engineering is a real struggle and I really look up to them. For some who have gone over the usual 5 years (but believe me, in UP - it's impossible not to be delayed in engineering so it's normal), to finally graduate means real happiness. I am so proud. But I also feel sad seeing them go. I am really close to my orgmates especially the older ones so when they leave UP, I know I'll miss them.

So that's basically it. How's everyone's Sunday? :) Click here to join the blog link by siddathornton.

Heyyyy. Here's a short lazy-post because I'm (not lazy but) tired. I ran errands the whole day but I still decided to write. Hope you enjoy this post!

Two days into my summer break and I got myself into something I don't even know. My sister just asked me the night before "Ate, wanna come help me dress models? My friend is looking for people who want to help. Free food!"..... So you know me, she had at "free food". The next morning we went to Glorietta for apparently.... a fashion show.

I was pretty overwhelmed with what had to be done, what was going on and probably everything else in between. Our call time was at 10am but the fashion show started at 4pm. If you think fashion shows are easy to organize, you thought wrong!

The event finished around 9pm. Here are some of the things that we did as a dresser / stylist along with what happened behind the fashion show and some realizations:

  • To be able to be in the fashion industry, you have to know brands. AND I MEAN BRANDS. Know how to pronounce their names right and youuu know, acknowledge the designers and their branding.
  • We were assigned 1-2 models each. I was assigned 2....... what we did was we had to take note of which brands they were going to wear and get their outfits from the closets (filled with more branded outfits oh la la). We had to create their own "rack" and arranged it according to the sequence of brands. It was fun and challenging, okay.
  • Models get to wear expensive and pretty clothes but they don't get to keep them. LIKE OMG. I wanted to be a model when I was a kid because I thought they get to keep the clothes the wore..... It does happens sometimes buuuuuut rarely according to my friend.
  • For shoes not to get dirty, we had to put masking tape on the sole. It had to be perfect so when the camera zooms in, the tape wont be seen
  • Steaming gusot clothes is a must :p
  • THE FEMALE MODELS WERE SO PRETTY!!
  • Bring extra safety pins and hair pins.
  • The female models were also soooooooo very nice. Yes, they are human too. They talk to you and sometimes as a dresser, they don't want help from me/us. I don't know if their shy and all but they were really kind.
  • The only thing the female models had to bring was their heels. They usually come in 5-6 inches high and in nude or black. :)
  • WE ALSO GOT TO DRESS THE MALE MODELS FOR MEN'S WEEK........ I admit it was so hard not to be awkward, they were wearing / walking around in briefs okay. HAHAHUHU
  • Never leave your rack. It's all a fast process.... once your model is done walking on the ramp, she/he comes back to have their outfit changed. Be alert and prepared!
  • Enjoy! Even if you can't see what's happening in front, it's also as fun backstage. :)

Sooooo there you have it, friends - a Mely in her unusual habitat... and she had fun! I also made friends with other dressers / stylists. It's funny how I suddenly want to be part of too of fancy shmancy fashion events like this..... not my forte but it was a good experience. Hopefully, this won't be my last gig.

At the end of the day, once the fashion show finishes (last model walks that ramp and comes back), everyone starts clapping backstage. You're feeling really tired but happy and fulfilled. It was a great team effort.

I really had fun! How about you? Have you ever been a stylist or dresser? How about model? Tell me your fashown stories. I wanna know! :) :)

Thus, we went to the upper campus of UPLB. I was always at the lower campus so I was pretty excited as everything I thought about the upper campus was a mystery.

I know summer is ending for most of you but for some of us, it has only begun. But even if your summer is ending, that doesn't mean you should stop using sunblock. For my case, rain or shine - I have to put on sunblock because it helps protect my skin against skin cancer and aging.

I'm not really the girly girl who uses a lot of make-up and facial products. The least I do is put on sunblock and on special occasions, I put on lipstick and sometimes do my eyebrows. But I'm not worried. For people my age, you shouldn't be putting on too much on your face. I have seen a lot of people who put too much make-up that when they remove their make-up, you won't be able to recognize them...... which I really don't uhm want? Baka sabihin pa nila, maganda lang yan kasi may makeup! Haha kidding aside, I'm not girly but I do have my own make-up kit. That's some development! It doesn't have much but here's what inside! :)

I AM FREE! Just kidding..... I'm only free for about 2 months. But at least I'm free, right? Huhu. Sorry for the online hiatus. I've been really busy with school lately but today, as I write this post, I finished my last exam and last three papers for the semester! Yayyyy. Now for my comeback... it's gonna be pretty hard but exciting! There's only so much backlog and new adventures to write about.  I also can't wait to continue my stuff toy & clothing business as well as RareJob (cause apparently, I was finally tagged as inactive tutor huhuhu). Tonight, I rest. Hopefully I can work on a new post, tomorrow! :)

Hello, hello! I'm finally back to blogging again..... or maybe it's my little way of escaping school work - especially now that we have one more month to go and we're heavy on requirements. But you should know I'm writing to you just because I had this idea and I'd like to share it! :) :) So feel special if I choose you over school work. Lol. Today's write uppppp = beating Monday blues. For some of us, we hate Mondays! JUST HATE IT RIGHT? Monday is the sign that the weekend is over and it's time to get back to school, work or to whatever we're doing. But be hold, I came up with a few tricks you can do to beat those Monday blues :)

Let me begin by saying my parents are into anything organic (SO PROUD OF THEM REALLY). They live healthy - and I'm lucky cause I eat healthy as well. I have never been confined or rushed into the emergency room well that's far as I can remember. Last May 1, we were supposed to go to Tagaytay for the holiday. We we're going to visit my parents' vegetable supplier's farm but sadly, the supplier got sick so we had to look for something else to do. And so for the last minute, we decided to go visit the Urban Agriculture Expo in Rockwell, Makati.

It's been a long time since I lasted posted here on my blog. Huhu sorry if I've posting Press Releases lately but in my defense, I found them interesting that I thought you might too! Anyways, going back. I can't believe it's already May! For some it may be summer, but for UP students like me - and no thanks to the academic calendar shift - it's still acads till the end of this month. I'm pretty excited for this month to end so that I can get to back to blogging because 1) I have a lot of pending posts 2) ADVENTURE AWAITS MEEEEEEE!! Huhu do you know how hard is it to have beach pics all over  my news feed. It's torture.

So for now, here's a little update on my life...... lately.

Actually I don't know where to begin, but let me begin with February wow major throwback.

    I TURNED TWENTY
I can finally say goodbye to my teeny bopper years YAYYY! Or at least I think I can. People still think I'm around 17-19. Huhu. Of course, I do realize the older I have become - the more responsible and mature I should be. The great thing about being twenty I guess is that there are some things I can do on my own. :) But of course, not the illegal things..... never. I'm still the good girl!

What happened on my birthday: Parents came around midnight. They gave me birthday money and my favorite starbucks snack! :) :) Siblings gave me art materials like calligraphy pens and a "Make Your Dreams Come True" Journal <3 Boyfriend showered me with gifts from Topshop, Cotton On and F21. My mother-in-law also gave me gifts too! hihihi :) Orgmates treated me and gave me gifts like books (they know me so well) and apartment friends gave me cake.

Two days later (since it's the a free day for most of us), I threw a mini party. Under the budget of 1k, the party was a success. And my boyfriend and I realized that we actually make good party planners.... so anyone who's looking for a budget party planner, hello! :D (HAHA)

The Philippines and Spain share a deep and colorful history and what better way to celebrate these two cultures than through their vibrant and intertwined culinary traditions. This April, the world’s most anticipated epicurean event will celebrate the two countries ’300 years’ worth of shared connection through food in one global event where the world’s top chefs showcase culinary innovations and cutting-edge techniques, ingredients and recipes taking food and dining to the next level. If one wants to see the “future of food,” this is the place to be in.

Students like me are sooooooo *so* prone to procrastination. With all the social media and social events going on, it's so hard to concentrate on other important things and that's probably the reason why "procrastination" is too common nowadays. But hey, don't worry, I too occasionally get my case of the "procrastination".

For those who aren't familiar with the word, well you're lucky! You probably don't procrastinate at all or (OR) you probably didn't know you were doing it. But let's hope for the earlier one. According to urban dictionary [dot]com,  procrastination is defined as "avoiding doing something for as long as possible, sometimes not doing it at all." - there were a lot of meanings but let's stick to this one for simplicity purposes.

Hi everyone! Sorry if I've been a busy bee lately, I really try to write when I can. We UP students don't have summer until June because of the calendar shift which means more school work... NOOOOO! Huhu. But seriously, I really do hope to update this blog more often especially now that this is my own domain (YAYYYY a blogpost about that soon!) :)

So how's everyone's summer so far? I'm sure many of you are in the beach by now, lying under the sun, sipping on a cool mango shake *ughhhhh the life please* HAHA. And since it is summer, we should not forget to take care of our skin too. That's why, I'm going to share you a secret - the secret of Sabon Co. ;)

They offer three kinds of soap, Glutathione, Acne Lemon and Arbutin. I was able to use all three in a span of a month or so. When I do product reviews, I'd like to do a little research on the product I'm going to use. I have sensitive skin and I am really careful with the beauty products I use. For Sabon Co, I don't even remember being hesitant at all.

I always believed that "Beautiful shoes will take you to beautiful places" and as a student, I couldn't agree more. I study in UP Los Baños and if you know the place, then you know our campus is the largest among the UP systems. And what exactly does that mean for me? A lot of walking. And I mean, a lot. Thus, my need for really good shoes.

Sadly, I used to be one of those girls who really didn't care with the shoes she wore. I mean, old sneakers and faded flats were actually part of my everyday wardrobe (huhu I know, I cry too) but that all changed after my first year in the University. After that year, I began to be more choosy with shoes. My shoes had to be beautiful yet functional. It had to live a long life and it should be sturdy.

I am a student after all- and it becomes pretty stressful with all the walking from one classroom to another, walking from one building to another, running cause I'm late for my morning classes, struggling through the dirt roads (UPLB is a jungle please) - my point is. I need shoes that are comfortable and pleasing (because no one likes dirty shoes).
